• NFL Game Day

Dear PYFL Families,

On behalf of the entire Pacific Youth Football League (PYFL) and during this time of uncertainty, we hope this message finds you and your family well.
Thank you for your continued patience during this time as it has been difficult for all of us.  Before sending out any communication, we wanted to ensure we had the most up-to-date, credible information.  As such, we have been working diligently on planning, having numerous discussions, and have also been patiently waiting for direction regarding youth football and cheer from the State of California.
On Tuesday of this week, we attended a Zoom meeting with the PYFL and the numerous chapters within this league.  Understanding the fluidity of this pandemic and experiencing some of the intricacies ourselves, members of the PYFL Executive Board have been in contact with County and State officials in recent weeks in the hopes of establishing acceptable guidelines for a 2020 football/cheer season.  However, due to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles, Ventura, and Santa Barbara Counties, it has severely hampered our ability to gain the necessary traction, information, and materials needed to establish these guidelines.  Further complicating this issue is the fact the State of California does not have reopening guidelines for any youth sport until “Phase 4” of its reopening plan.  Currently, the State is in early “Phase 2” which makes it extremely difficult to plan for a season.
As a result, the PYFL Executive Board, in conjunction with the PYFL General Assembly, have decided to postpone the July 13th, 2020, practice start date with an undetermined new start date.
The PYFL is set to meet again on July 28th, 2020, at which time a determination on the 2020 season will be made.  Please know that we are doing our additional due diligence by keeping a close watch on decisions that impact the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and the California State Board of Education.  Like most us have been doing, we implore you to remain flexible and plan accordingly if things don’t proceed as planned.  We thank you for your continued support of our youth.

2020 PYFL Weights & Ages

For 27 seasons, the Pacific Youth Football League (PYFL) has prided itself on providing a youth football league that is dedicated to the safety and well being of its athletes.

When determining ages and weights for a division, age, mental maturation and size are all aspects which need to be considered. Over these 27 seasons, we've observed that while size does play a factor, mental maturation mostly outweighs size.

We do not believe a child should be forced to play up 2 age groups merely because they are heavier. Our reason for this belief is that it does not account for the mental maturity or speed of a child that is 2 years older.

Furthermore, we understand from time-to-time there will be the rare athletes who possess size, skill and speed. In that rare instance, the PYFL will celebrate these players and the special gifts they possess among their peers.

While weight limits are still in place, we are pleased to offer a safe, age appropriate football league by providing kids the best opportunity to play and experience the game of football with kids predominantly their own age.
